CHLDREN USE OF INTERNET
They should be
allowed in the sense that access to the Internet is closely linked to the
ability to receive information and to exercise one’s right of freedom of
expression, and it can be regarded as a primary precondition for the enabling
of the fulfilment of other digital rights.
Furthermore,
access to, and use of, the Internet can be a powerful enabler of the
realisation of many sustainable development goals that directly impact on
children’s well-being.
According
to (Livingstone and Byrne 2015). Internet it helps interconnectedness with children and
promotion of better literacy skills needed and that will enable them to compete
in the global market in a few years’ time. Internet should be allowed because it reduces ignorance as
they are excited about sharing every aspect of their life with the world.
UNICEF 2016 it provides access to
a wealth of referenced sources and information, as well as, common information
from around the globe. It allows
people (i.e. family members, different races and cultures, different economic
and social backgrounds, etc.) to connect and exchange ideas, personal and
professional experiences, as well as, historical and up-to-date events and
activities. It also facilitates classroom
enrichment activities, opportunities for learning and work, as well as
immediate transmittal of critical, or time-based, documents.
Another
side we should not allow children to use internet because dealing with
prevention and protection against online violence it’s difficult. According to (UNICEF India 2016) When exploration of sexuality is taboo in certain
societies and sex education in schools almost non-existent), then adolescents
are likely to turn to the Internet to find out more about these forbidden
topics. However, the Internet can also be a place where children
encounter risks such as unwanted sexual solicitation, it
can serve as an avenue for predators to find victims. It is available only to
families and businesses that have the resources to subscribe to its services,
or have access through other locations. It may also cause children to lose
track of time and even become severely attached, or addicted, to its use. In
addition bullying and harassment or even inappropriate marketing and
advertising. Vulnerability
internet has also made it easy for unscrupulous elements to get in touch with
children and this has led to an increase in the cases of kidnapping and
identity thefts.

ReplyDeleteGood day Mr Mwanza,
I have read your post, but i am not too clear on whether you are For internet in schools or Against it. In the beginning of your post it seems like you support it but then at the end it seems you are against it.
Allow me to shed some light for you if you are undecided about this matter. The internet is a very powerful tool and is a huge knowledge repository, it also comes with many advantages such as equipping students with digital skills, according to the Internet Society (2017), it can improve the quality of education, it can help reduce costs (schools wont have to purchase textbooks)and it also increases opportunities for learning in and beyond the classroom. However I get that the disadvantages that you have mentioned may have made you hesitant about supporting the idea, but bear in mind that the students will be using the internet in a controlled environment with the teacher present, who will be able to guide and advise them on what is right and what is not, the teacher can also keep an eye on their browsing history and catch things in time before it is too late.
Hello Mr Davy i read your post in the point that you talk about exploration of sexuality is taboo in certain societies and sex education in schools almost non-existent), then adolescents are likely to turn to the Internet to find out more about these forbidden topics. However, the Internet can also be a place where children encounter risks such as unwanted sexual solicitation, it can serve as an avenue for predators to find victims. Agree with that because most of children's in our day are going behind what could cost them in future.

ReplyDeleteIn response to your post...I appreciate your assessment yiu balanced it well. However there is a point where I want to highlight where you said it reduces ignorance as they are excited about sharing every aspect of their life with the world. I think this point is closely leaning to the demerits because our main aim is for interconnectedness mainly on academic and educational purposes.Excitedness in sharing every moment of their life is quite dangerous. This leads to internet addiction primarily on things that are not beneficial it is will lead to that online violence you mentioned in your post.
